Leisure and Culture Portfolio Update

To receive an update on the following topics:

·         The Capitol

·         The Museum

·         Leisure

·         Parks and Countryside

Minutes:

The Capitol

The General Manager of The Capitol provided the Group with an update on The Capitol. The cinema screens would re-open on 17 July with the theatre remaining closed. Social distancing would be incorporated following government agreed guidelines.

The Group discussed different options for the Capitol going forward.

The Museum

The Museum would remain closed for the rest of 2020. Whilst closed the Council will refresh and update the displays. The Museum Team would bolster the museum’s online presence and would look at potentially hosting pop-up displays in shops across the district.

The visitor centre in the museum had closed and relaunched online via the new Discover Horsham website.

Leisure

Leisure Centres had been closed since March with no date for re-opening. HDC were liaising with local leisure providers to provide short term financial support while the centres remained closed.

Parks and Countryside

Parks within the district had seen high usage during the pandemic, however this had led to an increase of littering and anti-social behaviour. Methods to prevent these issues were being discussed.

Warnham Discover Hub was due to be completed at the Warnham Nature Reserve in Autumn with landscaping work to follow.
