5.35pm: Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Strategy (LCWIP)

The Group will receive an update on progress with the strategy following recent consultation

Minutes:

The Senior Projects Engineer reported the West Sussex County Council pop-up cycling lane had now been installed along Albion Way. Although only installed on Monday 14 September 2020, some concerns had already been raised over its safety. Officers from the Council have contacted West Sussex and more prominent signage would be implemented.

Reports had been received of people cycling in West Street. Monitoring of this would be ongoing with discussions on how to better dissuade people from cycling on West Street.

The Senior Projects Engineer presented the results of the stakeholder and public consultation for the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP). Public response to the LCWIP had been positive in relation to the cycling aspects though few comments had been received regarding the walking.

The group was provided an overview of the initial Cycling and Walking corridors throughout Horsham town.

The town centre areas were not included in this the first LCWIP, however further reviews and projects could be included when the LCWIP is updated.

Potential new schemes that were to be investigated were relayed to the group e.g. 20mph zones in residential areas, a Southwater and Christs Hospital link and the implementation of more benches and rest areas along key town corridors.

The Director of Place provided the group with an update on the LCWIP timeline. The final document would be brought to the next meeting of the PDAG in November before going to Cabinet and Council. There had been a slight delay in schedule to allow all received comments to be reviewed and incorporated into the plan where necessary.
