The group approved the notes of the meeting held on 15 September 2016.

17.

Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre

Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture

Minutes:

Members noted an update on progress of ‘The Bridge’ including:

 

·         The approval of planning permission

·         The appointment of a contractor would be a Cabinet decision in January 2017

·         Scheduled opening was Spring 2018

·         The multi-use games area (MUGA) land transfer was not yet completed but was still anticipated to complete in time to create the new MUGAs which would ensure continuity of provision prior to the start of the leisure centre build.

·         UK Power Networks had been requested to move cables in order to facilitate works.

18.

Broadbridge Heath Playing Fields and new home for Broadbridge Heath Football Club

Minutes:

The group heard an officer update:

 

·         The club house size and shape had been agreed

·         Delivery was scheduled for Winter 2017

·         Some residents had objected to floodlighting

 

Officers additionally explained the re-provisioning arrangements for drama groups, badminton, bowls and athletics.

Sport and Physical Activity Strategy

Head of Community and Culture

Minutes:

Members had received the draft strategy and associated action plans in advance of the meeting. Members discussed:

 

·         The ambition for growth in participation

·         The absence of some sports from the action plans

·         The approach by which the action plans would be updated

 

The group supported the strategy for approval by Cabinet in January.

20.

Museum update (including English Watercolours Collection)

Head of Community and Culture.

Minutes:

The group received an update about the museum service and noted:

 

·         record levels of attendance

·         the success of the watercolour exhibition

·         the excellent relationship that had been built with sponsors and donating partners

·         the skills of the museums and heritage officer and the museum team in continually reinventing the museum offer, and

·         the exhibition programme for the forthcoming year

 

The group considered the merits of a Museum Trust in contrast to the partnership with the Friends of Horsham Museum. The Chairman explained the background to previous considerations of the matter.

 

21.

Arts and Heritage Strategy (Building Bridges)

This item was postponed and rescheduled for discussion at the January meeting of the group.
