The Cabinet Member and Head of Leisure and Culture provided a summary of the relevant portfolio.

Current items listed under the Leisure & Culture portfolio included:

·         Year of Culture 2019       

·         Ecology and Wildlife Environment Plan

·         The Bridge Leisure Centre

·         Refurbishment of the Capitol Theatre

·         Horsham Park Plan

·         Warnham Nature Reserve

·         Southwater Park Enhancements

The Head of Community and Culture summarised the works commonly undertaken by her service.

The Head of Leisure and Culture provided the group with background information regarding the Horsham Park Management Plan.

Following a public consultation in 2017, 96% of park users felt satisfied with the facility.

The Horsham Park Management Plan was split into the following categories:

Conservation and biodiversity

·         The idea to introduce more conservation and biodiversity stemmed from the 2017 consultation. Habitat conservation for target species that had been included with the plan to balance the aesthetics of park with habitat creation.

·         There would also be a scheme to reduce litter and increase recycling with new bins by 2020.

Improvements to Maintenance

·         There would be various improvements to the station entrance and subway.

·         Higher level of maintenance at park house sensory garden and pathways throughout the park.

Pond improvements

·         There would be a balance between primary functions of the pond and landscaping and habitat.

·         Installation of an information board to describe the primary function of the pond.

Safety

·         Increased Neighbourhood Warden patrols, CCTV upgrades, better lighting options.

A Year of Culture Officer provided the Group with a summary of the Year of Culture 2019 so far and an overview of projects still to come.
