Year of Culture Update

To receive an update from the Year of Culture team.

Minutes:

The Director of Community Services updated the Group on the Year of Culture.  The official launch had taken place on 5 January and there was a full and varied calendar of events confirmed taking place across the district.

 

The Cabinet Member thanked officers for their hard work and commitment in securing the programme of events.

Capitol Theatre

To receive a presentation on the Capitol Theatre.

Minutes:

The Cabinet Member welcomed the external consultant Chris Moore, who presented a report to update Members on the future options appraisal for The Capital. 

 

The presentation included: the potential impact of the Year of Culture and the need to meet cultural expectations of the district population; the benefits of investing in modernisation of the building; and competition from the Everyman Theatre scheduled to open in the Town Centre this spring.

 

The Group noted the recommendations, which included: offering a wider range of activities, including daytime events such as workshops and community activities; developing an outreach programme focussed on a Youth Theatre; expansion of the drama programme and redefining the film programme; and the provision of enhanced catering facilities.  In order to facilitate these proposals, reconfiguring and modernisation of the existing building was recommended.

The Bridge & Broadbridge Heath Football Club Update

To receive a verbal update from the Head of Community & Culture.

Minutes:

The Head of Community & Culture updated the Group on The Bridge Leisure Centre, which had opened to the public in October 2018. The Group noted that the skate park had been completed.

 

With regards to the Broadbridge Heath Football Club, the infrastructure was now in place, and the main football pitch was ready for use by the club.  There were two other pitches, which still needed work done.
