Capitol Theatre Options
The Director of Community Services provided the Group with an update on the Capitol Theatre. The Capitol was performing well, relative to similar venues elsewhere. Operating costs had reduced over the last 10 years as usage had increased.
Year of Culture
The Head of Community & Culture updated the Group on the 2019 Year of Culture. The programme for the project had been released with 5000 copies being distributed to local businesses and another 5000 copies would be distributed. The online version of the programme had also been released allowing for continuous updates to be made as more events are added. The programme had 220 events in the calendar with more to be added. The Year of Culture Launch Event was scheduled to be held on 5th January 2019 in Horsham Park.
An ambassador scheme was being worked on to allow people in the community to help promote the Year of Culture.
Bridge Leisure Centre/Football Club/Athletics Track
The Leisure Strategy and Client Manager provided the group with updates on The Bridge leisure centre, the new Football Club, and the re-provision of the Athletics Track.
The Bridge had opened on the 20th October 2018. Early indications pointed towards The Bridge being a success with the number of full memberships increasing. An asbestos survey was being taken on the old leisure centre before demolition could begin but should commence on the 19th November 2018.
The Broadbridge Heath Football club were using changing rooms in The Bridge until their new facilities were available.
Sites were still being discussed for the re-location of the Athletics Track and in the meantime the Athletics Club were continuing to use the old track.
