To confer the title of Honorary Alderman on Leonard Crosbie in recognition of his eminent service to the Council and the community
Honorary Aldermen: Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972 provides that a principal Council may, by a resolution passed by not less than two-thirds of the members voting thereon at a meeting specially convened for the purpose with notice of the object, confer the title of honorary aldermen on persons who have in the opinion of the Council rendered eminent services to the Council as past members of the Council but who are not then Councillors of the Council.
Minutes: The Chairman of the Council advised Members that the purpose of the meeting was to confer the title of Honorary Alderman on Leonard Crosbie in recognition of his eminent service to the Council and the community, in pursuance of Section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972. Leonard had passed away on 6 September, one week after retiring as a Councillor because of ill health, and the honour was therefore being conferred posthumously.
It was moved by Councillor Tricia Youtan and seconded by Councillor Frances Haigh. After a number of Councillors had spoken in support of the proposal it was:
RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY
That the title of Honorary Alderman of Horsham District be conferred upon Leonard Crosbie in recognition of his eminent service to the Council and the community.
The Chairman presented Leonard’s family with a badge and certificate. These would be delivered to Mrs Crosbie shortly. Leonard’s daughter then gave a short speech of thanks. |
